2021 - COVID Recovery Fundraiser
Dear UCU Family,
Greetings on behalf of UCU residents and the Alumni Board.
We are very thankful to report that UCU is once again operating at full capacity for the first time since March 2020. We have been working to recover what we lost to COVID — both relationally and financially. Our student officers are happy to report significant growth in new and returning residents alike, and overall there is a strong sense of community and joy throughout both houses. This is a huge answer to prayer, and we are excited to continue watching our residents develop mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.
For several decades, the board carefully managed UCU’s finances so that nearly all of UCU’s income comes via room and board fees paid by residents. This stewardship ensured funds to pay bills and maintain cash reserves to absorb large, sporadic expenses required to maintain the (old) houses. However, due to the impact of COVID throughout 2020 and 2021, more than $200,000 in reserves was spent to get us through the pandemic. While reserves are not completely depleted, the lower balance has forced difficult decisions to defer maintenance which has led to noticeable impact on the functioning/comfort of UCU.
We humbly request your financial support for UCU.
Our goal is to raise $150,000 by December 31, 2021.
Know that the proceeds of this fundraising effort will finance several high-cost, high-visibility projects. Specifically, ovens and a ventilation hood in the women’s house and windows in the men’s house.
We are happy to announce that your gift will be matched!
A generous donor has pledged a matching gift of $25,000 to help seed this campaign.
Help us spread the word! Please share this giving opportunity with other UCU alumni, friends, and family encouraging them to subscribe to the "Summer Newsletter".
If we get 100 new subscribers, an additional $5,000 gift will be made to UCU.
If you are able to give financially and are comfortable doing so online, you can do so with the button below.
UCU is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and gifts are tax deductible.
If you would prefer to send a check or give via a donor advised fund, please email board@ucu.com for details.
Thank you for supporting UCU at this time.
Sincerely,
UCU Alumni Board
