History of UCU

UCU began as an independent Christian men's living organization in 1935, and has been in continuous operation ever since. The men moved to their present location at 1605 N.E. 47th two or three years after the organization was founded. A women's organization was also started in the early days but ceased operation after a few years, until it was restarted in 1963 in its present location at 4554-16th Ave. N.E. The building housing the men dates to 1909, within a year or two after the University of Washington moved to its present “U-district” campus. The women's building dates to 1918, just at the end of World War I. Both houses are wholly owned by the UCU Alumni Association, having been purchased through a fund-raising campaign in the 1960’s.
